| Sweeping their arms to the heavens, Ronya-Lee Anderson, left, and her student, Della Autry, celebrate Psalm 63 through dance during rehearsal at Ninth Street Dance studio. Holding a bachelor’s degree in dance and now studying at Duke University’s School of Divinity, Anderson decided to combine both interests into teaching interpretive movements based on scriptures. Anderson’s inspiration is based upon her belief that the Christian God is an active God, and the simple gestures he asks of his flock during religious services — uplifting hands in prayer, kneeling and bowing — really act as conduits of his power and grace. And expanding on these movements through dance is a natural progression to further understanding and enhancing the spiritual experience. |
