| Though he was attending a technological event geared toward increasing the awareness of the value of being technologically savvy, Christian Joy, 12, goes back to pre-computer basics while learning how to create a structure strong enough to support much more than its own weight. Using two wooden blocks and a piece of folded notebook paper to make a bridge, Christian stacks pennies as he hopes to beat the day's record of 44. His best so far was 32, but he had yet to flip the paper over and fan out the folds as triangles as the high scorer had done. Triangles form the strongest structures -- a lesson Christian would soon learn by going online and visiting the interactive and informative science fair project Web site tryscience.org. |
