I very much appreciated your thoughtful coverage of the affair involving Police Captain B. J. Council in [the Saturday, Oct. 3] N&O.

I was especially gratified that your article cited so many examples of support for this fine officer, notwithstanding the serious charges that have been leveled against her since the release of the city audit on Wednesday.

I wish to add my voice to those of others who are familiar with her many years of dedicated and exemplary work as a police officer and who find it almost incredible, as do I, that someone of such high standards and repeatedly proven integrity could have run afoul of the law in the manner alleged. I hope that you will continue to probe these allegations, as well as the circumstances that may have given rise to them, as I sincerely believe that the facts will ultimately prove Captain Council's innocence of any wrongdoing.
