In the liner notes to Frank Zappa’s 1982 album “Ship Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch,” Steve Vai is credited with contributing the “impossible guitar parts.” That just about says it. Nobody else plays like Vai, a virtuoso of the electric guitar who has won three Grammy Awards and dozens of other honors. He will bring his wizardry to the Carolina Theatre, 309 W. Morgan St., on Saturday Aug. 25, with special guest Beverly McClellan. 919-560-3030, carolinatheatre.com
