Mass Transit Magazine recently recognized
Brian Andrews, operations manager of Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA) as one of its “Top 40 Under 40” for 2011.
The award recognizes 40 individuals under the age of 40 for their transit industry contributions and exemplary work in their profession.
Recipients are have shown a capacity for innovation, demonstrated strong leadership skills and made a commitment to making an impact in the transit industry.
As operations manager, Andrews manages and oversees the day-to-day operations of DATA’s fixed-route service, which consists of 125 bus operators and more than 20 bus routes. He began his career with the N.C. Department of Transportation as an apprentice in 2006.
Most recently, DATA partnered with Duke University to provide free bus service to students and staff between the city and the university. Andrews credits much of his success to his staff.
“It truly is an honor to be recognized by the publication,” Andrews said. “I am thankful for all that I have learned from my managers, and I appreciate the hard work and dedication my team has shown day in and day out to provide a safe and reliable transit service to the community. This recognition is just as much for me as it is for them, and I am truly grateful.”
Andrews graduated from the Winston Salem State University where he majored in business management and management information systems. He received his master’s in public administration from N.C. Central University. Also in 2011, Andrews was inducted into Winston Salem State’s Football Hall of Fame. He has been married to his wife, Joleen, for five years and is the father of a 4-month-old daughter, Aniya Grace.
