The City Council approved the grant, from the city’s Cultural Master Plan fund, without comment Monday night.

The money will go toward a $197,184 renovation for the city-owned building on the Downtown Loop between Morgan and Main streets. The museum, previously online only, leased the 1,600 square-foot building in April. The city is not charging rent.

The museum may use the grant for:

• Repairing the roof, installing electricity and otherwise sprucing up the pavilion beside the building;

• Outdoor signs to identify the History Hub;

• A hose connection for watering landscape plants;

• A large map and display on Durham County historic sites and special events;

• A touch-screen display for historical websites.

Also Monday, the council:

• Approved new rules for food trucks and sidewalk carts, eliminating a formerly required mobile-cart permit and setting a 50-foot distance requirement between mobile vendors and restaurant entrances;

• Approved in principle the deal points for landscape improvements and parking on Ninth Street, involving approximately $1.18 million in public investment.
