The Isley Brothers, one of the longest-lasting and most influential groups in rhythm and blues, had their first of dozens of hits more than half a century ago, with 1959’s “Shout,” which now must be one of the most frequently covered songs in popular music. The Isleys, with special guest Yolanda Rabun, will be at the Durham Performing Arts Center on Dec. 21. 919-680-2787, dpacnc.com.

Matt and Nikki Hill bring the blues in a big way. Matt was the 2011 Blues Music Awards Winner for Best New Artist, and his wife Nikki, a Durham native, is a powerhouse of a vocalist. They’ll be at Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse on Dec. 22. Together they pack a real punch. papamojosroadhouse.com.

Rebecca Newton (of Rebecca & the Hi-Tones, among others) leads an all-Newton night at the Blue Note Grill tonight. For the third annual “Newtonanny,” Rebecca will bring along daughters Abby Sheriff-Newton and Louise Newton (Girls Rock NC, Janzig), anchored by the rhythm section of Leslie Land-Newton (Chicken Fried Blues) and John Worthington-Newton (Girl Trouble, Mystery Hillbillies). The show will feature seasonal selections and the popular “Hideous Christmas Couture Contest,” so don your worst seasonal attire. thebluenotegrill.com.
