The spectacular jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon joins forces with John Brown and his Big Band for what promises to be a terrific evening of holiday music Dec. 21 at the Carolina Theatre. Freelon has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and has shared stages or recording studios with almost everybody in jazz, including Aretha Franklin, Herbie Hancock and Ray Charles. When she sings, there’s nothing else in the world.

Bassist, composer and educator Brown is the director of the Jazz Program and associate professor of the Practice of Music at Duke University. He’s performed with some folks you may be familiar with, too, like Wynton Marsalis, Elvin Jones and Cyrus Chestnut.

Put these two together, with the terrific Big Band, and this is a show that will warm any winter night. 919-560-3030, carolinatheatre.org
