DURHAM - Police have arrested two more suspects in connection with an incident in which a Durham police officer shot himself in the leg and his gun and badge were stolen.

Ledarius Devon Riley and Dustin McCoy Portee were arrested on North Miami Boulevard Dec. 20. Riley, 18, of Rosetta Drive and Portee, 20, of North Miami Boulevard, are both charged with being an accessory after the fact to a felony.

Officer Kelly A. Stewart’s badge has been recovered. His gun is still missing.

Stewart, 26, an officer since July 2007, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during the traffic stop around 10:20 a.m. in the parking lot of Forest Pointe Apartments at 1619 Forest Road. Stewart stopped the vehicle, an altercation ensued and Stewart was shot during the struggle.

The Police Department is seeking information to find the stolen gun. CrimeStoppers (919-683-1200) offers rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

Police previously arrested a third suspect – Carlos Antonio Riley Jr. – in the 1700 block of Rosetta Drive. Riley, 21, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer causing serious injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with this case. He was placed in Durham County Jail under a $1 million bond.
