DURHAM - The Bull City got its first homicide call of 2013 three hours into the new year.

The Durham Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Cecil Street. Officers received the call at 2:58 a.m. Tuesday.

Kinta Lamont Newman, 33, was shot by an unknown suspect. He was taken to an area hospital by acquaintances where he died, according to police.

Investigators are searching for a black male seen driving a dark colored Cadillac. The exact model and style of the vehicle is still unknown. The male was seen wearing a white colored turtle neck shirt, but police gave no other details such as the man’s height, weight or facial features.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Investigator C. Sole at 919-560-4440 ext. 29350 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
