King Holiday Celebration Events

• Youth Awareness Service – 4 p.m. today, Hayti Heritage Center, 804 Old Fayetteville St.

• Triangle Interfaith Prayer Breakfast – 7 a.m. Monday, Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center, 4700 Emperor Blvd., Research Triangle Park

• Unity March & Rally – 10:30 a.m. Monday starting at NC Mutual Life Insurance Co., 411 W. Chapel Hill St. and ending at First Presbyterian Church, 305 E. Main St.

• Annual Religious Service – 6 p.m. Monday, St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, 531 S. Roxboro St.

Most Durham County Government offices will close Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday holiday.

General Services

• County Convenience Centers

The Durham County General Services Department will close its four solid waste and recycling convenience centers on Monday.

Durham County residents with a current 2013 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items on Tuesday beginning at 7 a.m.

• Roadside Recycling Collection

The Durham County roadside recycling collection (Schedule A) for the week of January 21 will not change due to the holiday. Customers scheduled for Monday’s collection will receive service on Monday as scheduled.

Department of Public Health

The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health’s response team member on-call.

Durham County Library

Durham County Library will also be closed on Monday, January 21, for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The library will reopen on Tuesday, January 22 with regular hours.

Department of Social Services

Durham County’s Department of Social Services will close its Main Street and Duke Street offices and the office of Durham’s Alliance for Child Care Access, at 1201 Briggs Ave., Suite 101, on Monday and reopen with normal hours of operation on Tuesday.

While offices are closed, residents should contact an on-call social work by calling 911 to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. Get detailed information about Durham County Government’s holiday schedule and more at www.dconc.gov.
