Hillside 35, Riverside 21

Northern 42, E. Chapel Hill 6

Southern 56, Northwood 54

Person 29, Jordan 19

Northern (2-6, 2-0)

at Hillside (5-2, 2-0)

This game will decide the lead in the PAC-6 with just two games left to go after that. Hillside remains the team to beat in the PAC-6, having won 25 straight conference games. The Hornets’ game was tempered by big-time opponents in the early season, and it’s paid off; their first three opponents have a winning percentage of 82.6; their last three have won 25 percent of their games, so they have to like their chances to run the league table again.

But Northern has clearly gotten into gear the past two weeks. The Knights rolled up 408 yards of total offense on East Chapel Hill, 382 of that on the ground. If Northern’s offensive linemen can deliver like that this week, they’ll make this a real game. Game time: 7 p.m. at Blunt Memorial Stadium.

Jordan (1-7, 0-2)

at Riverside (5-3, 1-1)

Riverside is looking to shrug off last week’s loss to Hillside and to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. Jordan is still looking to reboot its offense, which has scored just four touchdowns in six weeks. (Two of the Falcons’ scores in last week’s 29-19 loss at Person came on a kickoff return and a fumble return.)

Jordan’s defense has played well most of the season, but will be tested by the power running of Riverside’s Joel Evans, who ran for more than 200 yards against Hillside. Game time: 7 p.m. at Linny Wrenn Stadium.

Cedar Ridge (1-7, 1-3)

at So. Durham (6-2, 4-0)

After last week’s Big-8 win over Oxford Webb, the Red Wolves will get brought quickly back down to earth at Southern. The Spartans are much quicker and more skilled than the Warriors. Cedar Ridge quarterback Payton Pappas completed 10 of 15 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns against Webb, helping the Wolves snap a nine-game losing streak, but he’ll need to do a lot more than that to match Southern’s Kendall Hinton. Game time: 7 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.

“It’s going to be challenge. They’re right up there with the highest caliber teams in the state.”

R.J. Wilson, Northern
