Basketball event to honor slain boy
I am writing to share information about a community event organized by Durham nonprofit D3 Community Outreach.
D3 Community Outreach holds its annual celebrity basketball game to raise awareness and funding for the free programing it offers to inner-city Durham youth. D3 provides literacy and GED training, college tours, an annual summer basketball league, and much more for youth.
In addition, this year, D3 along with friends and family of Jaeden Sharpe will use proceeds from the game to launch the JJ Sharpe Impact Foundation for Youth Against Violence. The foundation has been organized to honor Jaeden, a Durham youth, who was tragically murdered this January at the age of 9 years old.
Please come out to honor Jaeden’s life, support D3 and your Durham community! The event is FREE and will include games, prizes, concessions, and live music. D3’s 4th Annual Charity Basketball Game will be held at the Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center, located at 904 W. Chapel Hill St. in Durham on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m.
