DURHAM — Durham youth, 16 to 21, looking for employment should attend an upcoming job fair to meet potential employers and submit their résumés.
The Durham YouthWork Internship Program Job Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Holton Career and Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St. Youth applicants should wear business casual attire, bring a black pen and résumés, and come prepared for on-the-spot interviews.
Some of the partnering public organizations and private sector companies with job opportunities are the City of Durham's Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Durham Parks & Recreation, and the General Services Department. Other partners include Durham County Government, Durham Public Schools, Durham Technical Community College, North Carolina Central University, SEEDS, Spring Valley Living, and the Durham Economic Resource Center.
Youth may also submit their applications directly to the city’s Human Resources Department by visiting the department in person on the first floor of City Hall, 101 City Hall Plaza, or by downloading an application at bit.ly/LX0oga. Applicants should review the job listings and criteria needed to ensure eligibility for each position and submit one application per position. The deadline to apply is Thursday, April 17.
The Durham YouthWork Internship Program still needs private-sector companies interested in hiring youth. Employers at the job fair will have an opportunity to interview interested youth for job opportunities within their organizations, including positions that are year-round, full-time, part-time, or for the summer only. Employers receive free booth space at the event and must reserve their spot by Tuesday, April 8.
