• A group of seven Durham homeschoolers has qualified to compete in an international creative problem-solving event called Odyssey of the Mind.

The Golden Light Homeschoolers team won second place for their problem in the middle school division at the regional competition, held March 1 in Chapel Hill. They then improved their performance and placed second at the statewide competition April 5. They were the only team from Durham to qualify for the “Worlds” competition in late May in Ames, Iowa. Only 33 N.C teams among the three divisions qualified for the event.
