— Investigators say a woman found dead on the Rocky Creek Trail on Wednesday morning was the victim of a homicide.

A passerby found the woman’s body about 6:25 a.m. while walking along the recreational trail, a few blocks north of Elmira Avenue, not far from Shepard Middle School, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

Police have not yet made public the woman’s name or who found her body.

Rocky Creek Trail runs east from the American Tobacco Trail and goes past Elmira Park and crosses Elmira Avenue before passing south of the middle school and ending near N.C. 55.
