Writing Wrongs

Vivian Connell, a teacher at Phoenix Academy High School, is raising money to bring the school to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum at the end of May in Washington, D.C. Connell and museum officials are raising money to meet their goal of $20,000 for transportation, lodging and food. ncfpsc.org/writing-wrongs.

Horton High School Alumni Association scholarships

The Horton High School Alumni Association offers scholarships to descendants of Horton High School alumni and attendees who are in high school, college, university or graduate school during the 2014-2015 academic year. 919-444-9090, hhsaa.info.

Chow for Choice

Local restaurants will donate part of their proceeds from Tuesday, May 20, to Planned Parenthood of Central N.C. during Chow for Choice. bit.ly/RvW5ex.

John Avery Boys & Girls Club of Durham fundraiser

Solar energy fundraiser

McDougle Middle School, Solarize Carrboro and Yes Solar Solutions are raising money to install a solar array at McDougle Middle School and the Carrboro Library. Donate online by Saturday, May 24. bit.ly/1iHGV18.

Scholarship Fund Legacy Luncheon

The Lawrence & Artelia Perry Scholarship Fund will sponsor the second Second Annual Scholarship Fund Legacy Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Washington Duke Inn, 3001 Cameron Blvd., Durham. Early childcare educators and caregivers will be honored. Tickets must have been bought by Thursday, May 8, at PerryScholarshipFund.com.

Mount Merrill

Durham Central Park is raising money to build a climbing mound for kids with slides, boulders, a path and seats for adults. It will be named Mount Merrill in honor of Merrill Davis. The fundraiser will be online through Friday, May 30. kck.st/1npda7l.

Guardians of the Hill 5K

The Chapel Hill Police Department will sponsor the annual Guardians of the Hill 5K at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Southern Community Park, 1000 Dogwood Acres Drive, Chapel Hill. The 5K and Kid’s Fun Run will raise money for the N.C. Children’s Hospital. Registration costs $25. Kid’s Fun Run registration is $10. chpd.us.

Father’s Day 5K

Maggiano’s Little Italy will host its second Father’s Day 5K to raise money for Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina with a one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m., the 5K run and walk at 9 a.m. and a 100-yard kid’s run after the 5K on Sunday, June 15, at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham. Registration for the one-mile run costs $15 and the 5K costs $25. eastnc.wish.org.

Massage-a-thon

Massage Envy Spa locations will host a Massage-a-thon to raise donations for Duke Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, June 24. Cash donations will be accepted throughout June and $5 of each service on Tuesday, June 24, will be donated. massageenvyrdu.com.
