•  Andre D. Vann, coordinator of university archives and instructor of public history at N.C. Central University, was recently inducted into the Historical Society of N.C. The society, founded in 1945, is comprised of scholars of North Carolina history, primarily from colleges, universities, libraries and archives throughout the state and is dedicated to the study and promotion of the state’s history.

• Durham attorney William Chandler Vatavuk has been named president of Eno River Media Productions. He formerly served as the General Counsel and Director of Government Relations for Eno River Media Productions for several years.

• Lucas Middle School student Miranda Straubel has been named the Middle School Student of the Year by the N.C. Association for Scholastic Activities. Straubel competed in four different scholastic competitions at her school, winning the school spelling bee, serving on the school quiz bowl and MATHCOUNTS teams, and competing in The Quill writing competition. Straubel and her teammates Hanna Fogel and Mary Margaret Johnson led Lucas Middle School to a statewide victory in The Quill, with Straubel receiving individual recognition for argumentative writing.
