Dr. Peter J. Gomes will lead a class and preach at the worship service Sunday at First Presbyterian Church.

He will discuss his new book titled "The Scandalous Gospel of Jesus: What's So Good About the Good News" during the 9:45 a.m. class in Watts Hill Hall and will preach at the 10:45 a.m. service in the sanctuary.

Gomes is an American Baptist minister who since 1970 has served the Memorial Church at Harvard University, where he is a professor of Christian morals. This semester he has been a visiting professor at Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill.

The public is invited to attend both the class and the worship service. The church is at 305 E. Main St.
