One World Market on Ninth Street, a nonprofit store devoted to the mission of fair trade, will celebrate its 15th anniversary today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Everything in the store will be discounted 10 percent, and a number of free activities have been scheduled.

One World Market has helped improve the lives of thousands of hard-working families in some of the world's poorest countries, said Laura Wendell, executive director. She said the store is Durham's best resource for fun, cross-cultural activities and fair trade information.

"We host dozens of exciting events in the store and visit Durham's schools, churches and community groups to spread the message that you can make a difference by buying fair trade," she said.

"One of our Pakistani rug makers said it beautifully," she said. " 'When we have jobs and our children are in school we have no time for making war. It is amazing how cheap is the price of peace.' "
