Independence, hoo-ray!
Thanks to a gesture appropriate for the day Americans just said No to burdensome taxation (among other things), on the Fourth of July in North Carolina folks can fish for free.
From midnight until 11:59 p.m. Friday, no license is required to angle in North Carolina waters. That includes trout waters.
The state Wildlife Resources Commission is not only lifting licensing, it's got almost 500 fishing holes listed at a link to its Web site (
www.ncwildlife.org). The rest of the year, a year's inclusive license (including trout and coastal waters) will set you back $35.
