Thanks to a gesture appropriate for the day Americans just said No to burdensome taxation (among other things), on the Fourth of July in North Carolina folks can fish for free.

From midnight until 11:59 p.m. Friday, no license is required to angle in North Carolina waters. That includes trout waters.

The state Wildlife Resources Commission is not only lifting licensing, it's got almost 500 fishing holes listed at a link to its Web site (www.ncwildlife.org). The rest of the year, a year's inclusive license (including trout and coastal waters) will set you back $35.

Price cut

Greenfire Development has knocked $20,400 off the price of its last double-unit condo in the old Kress Building on Main Street: the new tag on the 1,646-square foot, two-bedroom, two-bath, two-floor homeplace is $424,000.

Owners' association fee is $148 a month. Features, according to its MLS listing, include hardwood floors, private patio and location on a bus line.

Green lights

A Taste of India restaurant is open in the old El Rodeo space (near Pier I) in the Parkway Plaza shopping center (on University Drive behind the shopping center formerly known as South Square).

It's open for lunch and dinner daily, with a la carte service evenings.
