Restaurateur Matt Beason, former partner in Pop's and Rue Cler, is holding a txakoli fest today at his Six Plates Wine Bar.
Besides seven live acts playing blues, jazz, acoustic pop and tears-in-your-beer country, Beason is featuring the oddly spelled Basque wine from early afternoon until early Sunday morning.
Txakoli (pronounced "chac-o-lee") is a light, sparkly beverage that comes in white, red and rose varieties. It is said to go well with oysters, which Beason will have on hand, too.
Six Plates is at 2812 Erwin Road. See sixplates.blogspot.com.
'Soon' no more
It's been "coming soon" a long time, but the Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery at North Duke Crossing shopping center is opening Wednesday.
The restaurant chain serves Caribbean cuisine such as jerk chicken, goat and Jamaican patties (meat-filled pastries) along with cakes, rolls and breads.
Golden Krust is on the Duke Street side, near Kerr Drugs.
Help needed
Renovation at Broad Street Cafe is taking longer than expected, according to owners Jonathan Tagg and Daphne Lagasse. Volunteer help is encouraged. Contact
JT@TheBroadStreetCafe.com or just stop in.
The owners are hoping for a Tuesday reopening.
