| Georgia may have been on his mind, but New York City was the answer that fourth-grade student Amari Hamilton, 9, needed to provide to advance to the championship round during Burton Geo-World Elementary Magnet School's Geography Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Hamilton's run in the contest ended in the semi-final round with the question "The Brooklyn Bridge spans the East River in this city." He took a pass, hoping the other contestants would, too. But two older fifth-grade students knew the answer and forced him out. He had fun anyway, answering questions that would test most adults, knowledge of world geography. "I like doing geography and learning about other states." Especially Georgia, he said. "I'd like to go there because it has a lot of fun stuff to do." |
