Therapeutic lotion? Check. Toothbrush? Check. Case of Red Bull, earplugs and five pairs of extra socks? Check, check, check. A Guinness World Record? ... Maybe. As the competitive pace of the Duke-Carolina Student Basketball Marathon's opening tip-off finally slowed down to a polite mosey around the 55-hour mark, Duke assistant coach and sophomore Clark Daniel, 19, took the opportunity -- his team was up 3,567-3,309 -- for a quick nap. It was OK, though, because Duke had two other coaches along with 12 players working in shifts to complete the longest basketball game ever played. Along with students from rival UNC, they played a game that clocked in at 57 hours, 17 minutes and 41 seconds. Pending approval by The Guinness Book of World Records, the game was still a success, record or not, as $60,000 was raised to benefit the Hoop Dreams charity.
