| Parting the morning mist of a babbling brook it may not be, but Duke University's Astroturf field on East Campus works just fine for junior Katie Koval, as she practices her casting technique during Fly Fishing 018. The popular spring phys-ed course taught by Jan Hackett always has a waiting list for one of its thirty spots. And Koval has waited patiently for three years for an opening. Her sister and brother-in-law are avid fly fishermen, and she looks forward to joining them on their next outing. 'I think after this course I'll be a little more ready for the season,' she said without stopping a repetitive stroke, trying to make it feel more instinctive with each cast at a target 50 feet away. 'Hopefully, they'll see I'm not joking around and let me go with them now.'
