| Mimicking the insects they came to see, entomologists of all shapes, sizes and experience gather around a white sheet illuminated by a black light like -- you guessed it -- moths to a flame. Led by Museum of Life and Science staff in their new six-acre woodland and wetland habitat, crowds of naturalists and curiosity seekers buzzed around two simple, yet irresistibly attractive, lighting setups identifying bugs during the museum's Black Light Insect Hunt. And they were treated to a head-ducking show as Hercules beetles, leaf footed bugs and tons of mayflies, along with thousands of their kin, swooped in under cover of darkness, lured to the glowing cloth. |
