| Sheryll Daniel of Durham holds a tidbit in her hand as she coaxes Minute, her 1-year-old sheepdog, through an agility tunnel for the first time. The two were part of a six-week "Foundation for Canine Sports" class being taught at Sunny Acres Pet Resort. The class is for dogs that will someday be running such courses seriously in the competition arena, although many dogs and their humans take the class for fun or to give handlers more control over their animals. Handlers learn how to keep their dogs' attention and build a relationship that is the foundation for success. The dogs improve their motor skills and learn to have fun, develop drive and stay focused in the presence of other dogs. |
