| Durham County's Emergency Medical Services Department partnered with Durham Public Schools to implement the 'Every 15 Minutes' program at Durham School of the Arts (DSA). The national program is focused on educating high school students on the dangers of drinking and driving. On April 9, the week of DSA's prom, students played out a driving under the influence (DUI) accident during a mock performance. Senior Chas Watts assumes his position at the start of the crash, where he was pronounced DOA -- dead on arrival. 'It was kind of melancholy and surreal. They threw a sheet over my head. It was tough being covered and left like that,' he said. ' The fake blood was kind of rough. It was corn syrup and it was kind of sticky. ... It was just gross.' |
