BASKETBALL

THE DEADLINE to register for boys and girls ages seven to 15 who wish to play in the Woodcroft Athletic Association's basketball league is Nov. 3. The weekly practices start in December, with games on Saturdays. See the Web site: www.woodcroftsports.org

REGISTRATION FOR Durham Parks and Recreation's Special Olympics basketball (ages 13 and up) is Nov. 1. The skills clinic is on Sundays, Nov. 30 through March 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at no cost. For more information, contact tammy.brown@durhamnc.gov.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

BEFORE THE COOL WEATHER begins, Lake Michie has several outdoor offerings. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 19 there will be a fishing class for children ages five to 12 accompanied by an adult. The cost is $2 for city residents. Equipment will be provided. There will be a moonlight paddle Nov. 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., which will cost $3 for city residents. Call (919) 620-8154 to reserve spaces.

AT WEST POINT ON THE ENO there will be a Nov. 7 nature night for kids ages five to nine from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Art, exploration and games are planned. No registration is required for the Oct. 18 plant walk from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

REGISTRATION ENDS Oct. 20 for a three-day paddling adventure through the Roanoke River basin from Oct. 25-27. The Durham Parks and Recreation-sponsored trip explores cypress forests and swamps as participants camp on platforms over the water. All camping and canoeing equipment will be provided along with guides and transportation. City residents pay $150. Contact Kimberly.Oberl@durhamnc.gov.

AN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE festival will be held at Northgate Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov.15 to acquaint citizens with local outdoor adventure opportunities as they learn skills taught by local outfitters. The event is free and open to all ages and ability levels.

CYCLING

BIKERS CAN LEARN about bike maintenance free at a tune-up class from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. Nov. 6 at Spruce Pine Lodge. Bring your bike. Tools provided. Children 10 to 15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
