If you go out anywhere in town this weekend, you'll hardly be able to avoid hearing some great music. The annual Troka Music Festival cranks up Thursday evening with a kickoff show at Durham Central Park featuring Megafaun and The Beast, and continues through Saturday at venues all over town, including Broad Street Café, The Pinhook, West End Wine Bar, Bull McCabe's, Duke Coffeehouse, the Durham Performing Arts Center, the Marvell Event Center, the Trotter Building and even the new skate park. Some 70 bands in all will play: Pipe, Dex Romweber, The Moaners, Lud, The Dirty Little Heaters, Birds of Avalon, The Love Language, Regina Hexaphone ... you get the picture. Festival passes are $20, a bargain, and individual night passes are $8.
