Here are parts of a telephone interview Durham News correspondent David Newton had with Reinhart earlier this week.

Q. Do you expect an increase in attendance at the Performing Arts Center?

REINHART: "I do based on past history. You attract audiences in the beginning [of a new venue]."

Q. What percentage increase?

REINHART: "My looking glass broke a long time ago.

"The last two years we have gone up 10 percent each year. That ain't bad. Another 10 percent a year, that wouldn't be bad. Who knows what the economy is going to do? I think we're lucky to have gone up at all."

Q. How did you pay for the 75th anniversary blockbuster season?

REINHART: "We wore out a whole bunch of kneepads begging. Without the SHS [Samuel H. Scripps] Foundation, it wouldn't have been possible."

Q. How much did this season cost, and will you carry a loss into next year?

REINHART: "I can't give you a figure, honestly. It's not so clear-cut. We're still raising funds for this year. But we're not digging into the future to pay for the past."

Q. How much longer will you remain as full-time director?

REINHART: "I don't know. I think we're coming down the homestretch. It's something we'll have to deal with pretty soon."

Q. Will ADF move from Durham?

REINHART: "Absolutely not."

SUMMARY FROM REINHART: "This has been a [great] season and that's great for now. It's already raising the question of what do we do next year? We need to come up with something not as expensive but as spectacular. So tune in."
