Our recent holiday treats contest was a gut-busting success. Thirty-two entries and several mouthfuls later, our three judges crowned five winners, from cookies to cute little X-mice treats.
We ran the winners' names and their entries in last week's paper, but, alas, we ran out of space for the actual recipes. So, being the problem-solving journalists that we are, we decided to just run them on our Web site (
www.thedurhamnews.com).Several readers, however, complained that they didn't have access to the Internet and that they
really, really wanted the recipes. No problem. Just call Sheri Shuler-Farmer at 956-2411 and she'll send you a copy in the mail. She'll be out of the office until Jan. 3, but you can leave her a voicemail message with your name, address and phone number.

Although we're three months away from our one-year anniversary, The Durham News wants to undertake a look at its content and make some changes to better serve you. We want to engage your interest not just on the front page, but throughout the paper. Our standing features -- Bull Market, In The Game, Classtime, Around Town, Need to Know and Flo Johnston's Faith in Focus column -- have served us well, but we'd like to tweak them a bit. If you have some ideas about what you'd like to see, drop me a line via email or leave me a message at the number below.
Happy holidays.
