St. Titus Episcopal, 400 Moline St., has announced a series of Sunday forums featuring testimonies of Christians making a difference in the world.

Who are these blessed saints among us? What informs their work and where might others make the spiritual connection? These questions will be posed to a different speaker each week. The program runs through Sunday, Nov. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

On Sunday, Sept. 20, Mary McGuigan and staff members of Durham's Genesis Home will lead the forum.

Candidate forum

Unity in the Community for Progress and the Social Action Ministry of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a candidate forum for Durham City Council primary candidates on Sunday, Sept. 27. The public forum will be held at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary at 2200 S. Alston Ave.

Women via satellite

Bethesda Baptist, 1914 S. Miami Blvd., will host a conference for women via satellite Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., to hear inspiring messages from key Christian leaders.

Among the speakers is Anita Renfroe, who went from a stay-at-home mom to being a YouTube comedic phenomenon.

Amy Grant, who put contemporary Christian music on the map with her platinum record, is also on the program.

The conference cost is $15 and includes lunch. Tickets must be bought in advance by calling the church office at 596-2158.

Habitat grand opening

The Habitat ReStore will hold a grand opening celebration at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at its new location at 5501 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd.

The store sells gently used furniture, appliances, household goods and construction materials.

Fall plant sale

The Episcopal Church Women of St. Philip's fall plant sale is now under way offering colorful pansies, Johnny Jump-Ups and chrysanthemums.

Pansies are available in $13 flats of 36 plants of mixed colors as well as blue, white, gold, lavender or bronze.

Dorothy Smith, plant sale chairman, is taking orders at 489-5515 or at www.drs88@nc.rr.com. Proceeds are used to finance work of the ECW in the communityand to meet humanitarian needs abroad.

New faith community

A new Christian faith community is launching this weekend in south Durham and northwest Cary. Abundant Life United Methodist, a new church plant by the N.C. Conference of the church, will serve people who live to the south and west of Research Triangle Park.

The launch will take place over four Sundays: Sept. 20 and 27 and Oct. 4 and 11. The location is in the Kids R Kids building at7580 Carpenter Fire Station Road in northwest Cary.

Worship, according to the pastor, the Rev. Ken McLean, will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Crisis Center speaker

Aurelia Sands-Belle, executive director of the Durham Crisis Response Center, will speak at the Thursday, Sept. 24, luncheon roundtable of the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham. The meeting is held in the fellowship hall at Shepherds House United Methodist, 107 N. Driver St. All are welcome and lunch is provided.
